First Responders to a Radiological Emergency: HAZARD ASSESSMENT

MAJOR GOALS OF THE RADIOLOGICIAL EMERGENCY RESPONSE

                    To protect the public

To protect emergency personnel during response

                    Assessment of the Hazard

                    1. Determine if an event may be a potential radiological emergency

Indications of possible radiological emergency (hazard):

                    Indications of dangerous source

                    2. In case there are indications of a potential radiological emergency, as soon as possible confer with the radiological assessor through the national EOC and assess information such as the amount of specific radioactive material or unusual readings.

                    3. Follow Incident Commander's action guide.
